     Summary Details
    1. Review key components of the book (title, front and back of book, pages) We are going to read this book (show book) Ask children questions about the book, such as, “Have you read this book before?” or “Do you know the name of this book?”

The title or name of this book is David Goes to School (run finger along title as you read it).  The title, David Goes to School, is on the front of the book.

I am going to open the front of the book.  Now I am turning the pages.

    2. Read the book and turn pages from front to back

Say, “I am turning the page,” as you are turning the pages of the book.  If appropriate and not too disruptive you may ask the children to help you turn the pages.

Encourage the children to make comments about the illustrations.  Highlight the words on the page and note how the words look like a child wrote them instead of like the words in other books.  Compare the text with another book if necessary.
