     Summary Details
    1. Ask the children to help you recite/sing the ABC chant Let’s sing/say the alphabet.  I am going to say the letters of the alphabet.  I am going to point to each letter as we say it.  Remember to clap when you see a hand.  Using the ABC poster, sing/say the letters of the alphabet.  Point to each letter as you are saying it.  Ready, here we go.  Say each letter slowly as you point to it.
    2. Introduce activity

I am going to give each of you a letter.  One of your friends has the same letter as you!  Once everybody gets a card, find the friend that has the same letter as you.

Let’s try one.  Diamante this is your letter ‘m’.  Give Diamate the 'm' from the alphabet ring.  Chloe this is your letter ‘b’.  Give Chloe the 'b' from the small letter cards.  Charlotte this is your letter ‘m’.  Give Charlotte the 'm' from the small letter cards.  Which friends have the same letter?  Children respond.  Yes, Charlotte and Diamante both have the letter ‘m’.  Stand next to your friend.

    3. Identify common letters and initiate with peers Let’s begin our game.  Pass out cards to the children.  Everyone has their cards.  Find the friend that has the card like you.

As the children are matching cards, facilitate letter name identification.  Repeat the letter names as often as possible.  Encourage the children to say the letter names as well.

The alphabet ring cards provide more visual stimuli for the children to match, whereas the small letter cards only show the lowercase letter.

    4. Review letter name pairs Let’s look at the letters that match.  Review the letter names.
    5. Repeat activity If time allows, pass the cards out again and ask the children to match the letters again.
